Avni Dalal English 101 Claire Niedzwiedzki 5 December 2011 Comparative Analysis When we think of a city that is posh, luxurious, multi-cultural, and business oriented we think of New York, San Francisco, or Hong Kong. But another city that fits that description as well is Dubai, a city and emirate in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has the largest population with the second - largest land territory by area. This area was running by a small community of fishing and pearl diving but in 1966, oil was discovered and led to Dubai becoming the vibrant, modern, business-centered city it is today. In the picture attached, visible differences can be seen in Dubai from 1990 to 2003. The Gulf War of 1990 had a huge effect on the city. Many depositors withdrew massive amounts of money from Dubai banks because of the indeterminate political conditions in that specific region. Later in the 1990s many foreign trading communities, including Kuwait and Bahrain, moved their businesses to Dubai. In the top part of the
