Useful phrases Basic Intro to Chinese phonics: In Mandarin Chinese, there are two parts to a character: the character itself and the Pinyin . Unlike in English, in Chinese the way a character is written has almost no relation to how it is pronounced. This lead to wide divides in different dialects around the country. Later, pinyin , sometimes also known as “chinese phonics,” were added to help coordinate pronunciations. For Example: For the character 你你you你 , the actual character is , but the pinyin would be n ǐ , which corresponds to how it is pronounced. An introduction to pinyin : In Chinese, there are 4 different tones. They are: (For “ni”) In this packet, both the pinyin and the characters are used.
