In Sandra Cisneros’ “House on Mango Street”, she develops theme by making the reader realize the significance of family, that struggles can bring out insecurities, and realizing the difference between bitter fantasy and reality. Esperanza, the narrator and protagonist, struggles as she fits into the new society around her, facing many challenges and bitter truths along her path. She realizes that fitting in can be very hard, and that you can’t judge people just because they appear some way on the outside.
