Fall 2007 CHM 2210 ORGANIC CHEMISTRY 1 Section 4356 Instructor: Dr. Sukwon Hong, Chemistry Research Building 328B, 392-6787, shong@chem.ufl.edu Prerequisites: CHM 2046/2046L or the equivalent Required Text: L. G. Wade, Jr., Organic Chemistry , 6 th Edition Recommended: J. W. Simek, Solution Manual, Organic Chemistry , 6 th Edition and a modeling kit Lecture: MWF 11th period (6:15 – 7:05 p.m.) in Little Hall 109 Homework: The recommended study problems will not be graded or collected. However, it is very important to read the book and work the recommended problems by yourself to be successful in the course. Progress Exams: Sep. 21 th (FRI), Oct. 19 th (FRI), and Nov. 16 th (FRI) during class period Final Exam: Dec 12 (WED), 7:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. (exam group 12A) Office Hours: M (12:50 p.m. – 1:40 p.m. 6 th period), W (3:00 p.m. – 3:50 p.m. 8 th period) and F (10:40 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. 4 th period ) in CRB340 E-Learning System http://lss.at.ufl.edu/ - updated regularly with announcements, lecture notes, exam scores, the course syllabus, problem assignments, practice material, and handouts Teaching Assistants: Organic Chemistry Learning Center (Flint 257/258): TAs are always available Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Check WebCT Vista for specific schedule. Attendance and Classroom Etiquette : Attendance will not be graded. However, if you come to the class, make sure to be there on time. If you come late on exam days you will not be given additional time. If you are in class please be respectful of others. Hats may not be worn during exams. Cell phone use is strictly prohibited at all times in the lecture auditorium . Course Grading Policies Points : During the semester, three 50-minute exams (100 points each) and a cumulative final exam (200 points) will be given. Three progress exams* 300 possible points Final exam 200 points Total points possible 500 points * NO DROP POLICY. You must take all three progress exams and all three exam scores will be included in your final grade. * NO MAKE-UP PROGRESS EXAMS WILL BE GIVEN.
