Spring 2007 CHM 2210 ORGANIC CHEMISTRY 1 Section 0766 Instructor: Dr. Sukwon Hong, Chemistry Research Building 328B, 392-6787, shong@chem.ufl.edu Prerequisites: CHM 2046/2046L or the equivalent Required Text: L. G. Wade, Jr., Organic Chemistry , 6 th Edition (either the hard-bound complete textbook or the soft-bound UF-custom edition Volume 1) Recommended: J. W. Simek, Solution Manual, Organic Chemistry , 6 th Edition and a modeling kit Lecture: MWF 2nd period (8:30 – 9:20 a.m.) in Flint 50 Homework: The recommended study problems will not be graded or collected. However, it is very important to read the book and work the recommended problems by yourself to be successful in the course. Progress Exams: Feb. 7 th (WED), Mar. 2 nd (FRI), Mar. 30 th (FRI), and Apr. 16 th (MON) during class period Final Exam: May 2 nd (WED), 12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. (exam group 2C) Office Hours: M, F (1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.) and W (2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.) in CRB340 WebCT Vista http://lss.at.ufl.edu/ - updated regularly with announcements, exam scores and information, the course syllabus, problem assignments, practice material, and handouts Teaching Assistants: Several TAs will be assigned to this course. Their identities and office hour information will be posted as soon as possible. Check WebCT Vista for updates. Attendance and Classroom Etiquette : Attendance will not be graded. However, if you come to the class, make sure to be there on time. If you come late on exam days you will not be given additional time. If you are in class please be respectful of others. Hats may not be worn during exams. Cell phone use is strictly prohibited at all times in the lecture auditorium . Please adjust your phone so that it does not ring. Course Grading Policies Points : During the semester, four 50-minute exams (100 points each) and a cumulative final exam (200 points) will be given. Your lowest progress exam grade will be dropped ( you may not drop the final exam score ). Best three out of four progress exams*
