CHM 2211 Fall 2011 Organic Chemistry 2 Section 0786 Instructor: Dr. Jeffrey J. Keaffaber, Flint Hall (FLI) 251, [email protected] Required Text: Brown, Foote, Iverson, and Anslyn, Organic Chemistry , 5 th Edition. Recommended: Brown, Foote, Iverson, and Anslyn, Student Study Guide and Solutions Manual for Organic Chemistry , 5 th Edition and a molecular modeling set. Optional: A bound “CHM 2211 Notes and Exams Keaffaber Fall 2011” booklet may be purchased at Target Copy located at 1412 West University Ave. Advice: Even though lecture notes are posted online, or may be purchased already bound, you must make your own supplemental margin notes in class. Drawing structures, reactions, mechanisms, and syntheses is an art that must be mastered. You will be required to draw structures neatly on exams. Be an active, critical thinker and learner. DRAW. Don’t just stare at the material in an attempt to memorize! Lectures: MWF period 3 (9:35-10:25 AM) in FLI 50 Progress Exams: Exam 1 Friday, September 23 rd ; Exam 2 Friday, October 28; and Exam 3 Friday, December 2 nd (all in class) Final Exam: Exam Group 16B - Friday, December 16 th 10:00 AM – 12:00 Noon in FLI 50 Office Hours: MW period 7-8 (1:55-3:50 PM) and TR period 4 (10:40-11:30 AM) No Friday hours. If these times don’t work for you, ask for an appointment. Sakai: (updated regularly with announcements, exam scores and information, practice material, handouts, and lecture notes from class) TA Office Hours: Graduate teaching assistants will be available in Flint 258, the Organic Chemistry Learning Center (OCLC). The times that TAs are available is posted on Sakai. TAs will begin holding office hours on Monday, August 29 th . Exam Policy: (See reverse side for course grading policies): Three 100 point mid-semester progress exams and one 100 point final exam will be given. One of the three progress exams will be dropped. If you miss an exam, for any reason, it will be the exam dropped. Please plan your schedule accordingly, and be present at all three progress exams and the final exam! Homework:
