Engineering the Spreadsheet 3 Abstract The following assessment investigates the practices involved in spreadsheet development with emphasis on the best choices available. It features another case study by Thomas Grossman called, “A Paradigm for Spreadsheet Engineering Methodologies,” which heavily references the attitudes and opinions of Powell, S., & Baker, K (2009), whose angle this study will also explore. Assessment begins with the research that pre-dates development, followed by principles for the spreadsheet methodology. The study will include the 9 paradigm elements that help choose the methodology with further assessment of the 2 elements judged to be the most crucial. Before concluding, the assessment will consider the developmental aid given by spreadsheet classes. Goals of Spreadsheet Research The overall goal of spreadsheet research is to find issues preventing development and give constructive guidance if an issue does arise. Spreadsheet research covers a broad range of concerns involving errors, security, and productivity. Researchers focus on productivity by
