SIMILARITIES OTHER POWER PLANTS  USING STEAM Nuclear Power Plants  generate energy by  harnessing the power of  steam which is not  uncommon.  The difference is how to  generate the steam. Coal Oil Natural Gas

The basic concept is to heat water into pressurized  steam which then drives a turbine generator. Older power plants used fossil fuels such as coal,  petroleum and natural gas Nuclear Power Plants depend on the heat that occurs  during nuclear fission (when one atom splits into 2  and releases energy)

The heating source used to create steam from water  is enriched uranium which is much cleaner than coal  and other fossil fuels, the problem is disposing it  safely and cleanly.
