Casimir Funk summarized the requirement for “vital amines” in the diet (in addition to CHO, protein and fat); postulated vital amine” theory of disease, i.e. certain foods could cure diseases; 4 specific vital amines ” ( vitamines ) would cure: pellagra, beriberi, scurvy, rickets.
