16:51 Detroit riots in 1943 In the midst of world war II, many moved up from the south and other areas of the  country to Detroit to find work. There was high employment during world war II and  Detroit was a very industrial city.  Booming car industries based out of Detroit such the automobil industry and  engineering industry.  Eighteen months after pearl harbor, detroits population had increased by 350,000.  50,000 of these people were black.  This increase of African Americans made the new African American population in  Detroit appromiately 210,000.  This huge increase in people, particulary African Americans, made Detroit a prime sport  for highly anticipated rioting.  Car industry Car industry was just on the rise in the 1940s Detroit area was the home to all American car manufactures. High demand of jobs in the automobil industry.
