Histology 10/25/11 Slides - Cardiac Muscle o Make sure look for anastomoses and intercalated disks o Intercalated disks are the big ones, z lines are the very fine ones o Some stains have black capillaries - Smooth Muscle o 2 layers around small intenstine o Has longitudinal sections and cross section in both layers (cross is outside) - Myoid Muscle o Surround seminiferous tubules, small layer - Nerves o On outside is epineurium, perineurium bundles it, and then endoneureums o Sometimes see space between axon and endoneurium, from myelin removed by tissue processes o “buttefly wings” in longitudinal section denotes node of ranvier o Dorsal Root Ganglion Fatter cell body, look for satellite cells Blood and Immunity - Ch 10, pg 440-453 - Blood cells are referred to as the formed elements - Blood matrix is the connective tissue, as there are fibers in it o Doesn’t polymerize until stimulated, like to form blood clots - Erythrocytes o 7-8 um o No nucleus o Carry O 2 and CO 2 o Can ignore formation
