Histology 11/11/11 Notes: - Things that phagocytize: neutrophils and… Digestive Glands - Salivary o (don’t worry about teeth, gum, pharynx) o Located throughout lips and such, but mostly talking about parotid, submandibular, and sublingual glands Parotid is most Posteriorous and most Protein serous submandibular- serous and mucus Sublingual is under tongue- mucus o Contain alpha-amylase First step towards breaking down o Immunoglobulins? o Each gland starts with a secretor portion that connects with an intercalated duct (cuboidal, 4-6 cells), connected to a intralobular duct which is connected to a striated duct, all connect to the main extraductory duct o Striated ducts Fluid that enters the striated ducts has same composition as interstitial pumps Lots of sodium potassium ATPase pump Reabsorbs sodium from saliva, chlorine comes back into cell too Releases K+ AND bicarb.
