University of Florida / Summer B 2007 Syllabus / Schedule GEO 2420 Sec 4307 11:00am – 12:15pm Period 3 Course: GEO 2420 Section 4307 MTWRF Period: 3 (11:00 – 12:15 pm) Instructor: Betty Lininger (352) 392-0494 x208 Office Hours: Tuesday 12:15 to 1:15pm Turlington Hall 3120 or 3014 (check both) One hour: arranged as needed to accommodate students with conflicting schedules Class Information: Text: Human Geography th Edition, -optional (other editions are acceptable – look online at Lecture packet available at University Copy (near the Swamp on University Ave). Course Description: Studies of the sociocultural characteristics of contemporary societies within their manifested spatial structure. Focuses on similarities and differences of various cultures with respect to racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, demographic, and organizational characteristics. Course Objectives: To develop an understanding of the approaches used by human geographers to identify and analyze literature, traditions, and theories dealing with human-environment relationships. Also to identify and analyze the many cultural variables of humans, such as world population, languages, economic activities, human settlement, agriculture, urban patterns, and human impacts on the natural environment. Exams: There will be a total of four non-cumulative exams given on lecture, textbook material, and each region’s map locations. These exams are currently scheduled, yet a change could be made due to unknown circumstances. Any change of exam time will be announced in class and posted on our class website. There will be NO make up exams given except under special circumstances.
