Apolipoprotein E form 4 (APOE, Alzheimer’s) Sickle cell anemia (HBB, hemoglobin) Cystic fibrosis (CFTR) 1. Retrieve the “RefSeq” record from GenBank found at this link: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genbank/ a. In the top search box, search for the gene of interest. b. Click on the Nucleotide results found in the left hand column. c. Filter your results on the right-hand side of the page for “RefSeq” d. Export the FASTA format of an allele you choose to a file and save it; you’ll need this for step 7. 2. Retrieve the 3D molecular structure using Structures. You must first download the Cn3D viewer program. This is fast and easy: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/Structure/CN3D/cn3d.shtml PC and Unix users should be able to view the structure within their browsers, but refer to the help page for questions. Be aware if you are a Macintosh user like me, you will have to download the structure file(s) and then drop them onto the
