Lecture : Tuesday and Thursday, 12-1:50 pm. 5280 BH Course Description: This courses address characterization of microstructure and microchemistry of materials using scanning and transmission electron microscopy. Emphasis will be placed on electron optics and factors affecting performance of the microscopes; interaction of electron beam with solids for the purpose of discussion of the factors affecting the yields of secondary and backscattered electrons, and X-rays; the geometry of electron diffraction using the concepts of the reciprocal lattice and the stereographic projection; contrast mechanism of both instruments.
