Chapter 6 What is Entrepreneurship? o An entrepreneur is a person who seeks a profitable opportunity and takes the necessary risks to set up and operate a business. o Differ from many small-business owners in their strong desire to make their business grow . o Differ from managers through their overriding responsibility to use the resources of the organization to accomplish their goals. o Willing to take risks. Categories of Entrepreneurs o Classic Entrepreneurs Pursue and allocate resources o Serial Entrepreneurs Start one business after another o Social Entrepreneurs Society’s challenges (healthy restaurants) Entrepreneurship as a career o More than 12% of Americans run their own business. o The past two decades have witnessed a heightened interest in entrepreneurial careers. o People choose entrepreneurship for many reasons. Dissatisfaction with traditional work Their ideas fulfill customer needs Desire to be one’s own boss Desire for Job Security
