A researcher claims to have observed five separate phases in a ternary (3 components) alloy at the same time. Is this observation possible? Explain your answer. 3. The Mg-Pb phase diagram is shown in the text. (a) What is the solubility limit of Pb in Mg? At what temperature does it occur? (b) Consider that an alloy with 45%Mg-55%Pb is slowly cooled from 700 o C to room temperature. Determine the phases present, their compositions and weight fractions.
