[5pts] Consider the “rotating teacup” problem discussed in class on Sept 2. Solve
the equation of static equilibrium to find the pressure distribution within the liguid
and the shape of the free surface. Assume the depth of the liquid was H before
spinning it up.
What is the depth at the centerline and at the cylinder walls after
spin up (assuming no spillage).

Consider a rectangular block, 2in by 8in, submerged in water. The block is
tilted at 45deg so the lower edge corners are at (x,y)=(0,0) and (a,a),where
a=4Sqrt(2) with gravity acting in the –y direction.
a)
Determine the buoyant force (per unit width) using the formula derived in
class
b)
Determine the moment about the corner (0,0) (per unit width) using the
formula derived in class
c)
Plot pressure vs x around the perimeter of the block.
Label upper and lower
surfaces. (measure pressure from the (0,0) corner)
