Evgeniy Bukatin Pr. Adou-Dy BUS 308 November 2, 2011 Chapter 6 – Questions for Review 1. What is perception, and what factors influence our perception? Perception is a process how individual interprets and organize their sensory impressions in order to give meaning to their environment. There are several factors that influence our perception, these factors can reside in the perceiver, target, or in the situation. Factors that influence the perceiver can be motives, attitudes, experience, or interests. Factors that influence situation can be the work setting, time, or social setting. Factors that influence target are sounds, novelty, motion, proximity, similarity, and size. 2. What is attribution theory? What are the three determinants of attribution? What are its implications for explaining organizational behavior? According to the book attribution theory is an attempt to determine whether individual's behavior is caused internally or externally. Internally caused behaviors are behaviors that an individual can control, for example if an employee is late from work because he went to bed late and overslept the next morning. Externally caused behaviors mean that environment cause the individual to do different things, for example the employee is late from work because there was a car accident on the way to work. To determine if the behavior is internal or external depends on three factors: distinctiveness, consistency, and consensus. Distinctiveness means if the individual behaves differently in different situations, for example
