Act 1 Vocabulary 1. Overture- an initiative toward agreement or action: proposal b : something introductory 2. Province-an administrative district or division of a country 3. Sect- a dissenting or schismatic religious body 4. Predilection- an established preference for something 5. Rankle- to cause anger, irritation, or deep bitterness 6. Citadel- a fortress that commands a city; stronghold 7. Homage- : expression of high regard : respect —often used with pay 8. Autocracy- government in which one person possesses unlimited power 9. Junta- a council or committee for political or governmental purposes; especially : a group of persons controlling a government especially after a revolutionary seizure of power 10. Theocracy- government of a state by immediate divine guidance or by officials who are regarded as divinely guided 11. Injunctions- a writ granted by a court of equity whereby one is required to do or to refrain from doing a specified act 12. Paradox- : a self-contradictory statement that at first seems true 13. Propriety- obsolete : true nature ; the quality or state of being proper : appropriateness 14. Abominations- extreme disgust and hatred : loathing 15. Providence- divine guidance or care
