1 Ohioma Donald Ohioma Crystal Coble Hum 102-101 13 October 2011 Title The glass Menagerie, by Tennessee Williams recounts the tale of a family abandoned by their father figure and raised by a single mother. Amanda Wingfield, the mother, has become bitter and restful towards her children due to her punitive financial state and the amount of difficulty that it creates in raising the family alone. Her children are Tom and Laura Wingfield. Tom has a confliction between pursuing his writing dreams and staying to be the main income provider for his family. His decisions, for the majority of his past, are passed solely upon his abandonment issues. He does not wish to follow the path of his father and run away from his family. For this research paper, I have chosen the topic of absentee fathers and single mothers. I chose this topic because it addresses one of the main points of the play; the effects of a broken home on its constituents. This includes not only the children but also the one raising them.
