Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death and disability in our country. CVD is a term used to describe diseases that can affect an individual’s heart (cardio) and body system of blood vessels. It may sound like a single disease, but cardiovascular disease is actually a group of over 60 disorders of the heart or blood vessel system within a person's entire body. High blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke are the most common forms of cardiovascular disease. Most cardiovascular diseases reflect chronic conditions – conditions that develop or persist over a long period of time. However, some of the outcomes of cardiovascular disease may be acute events such as heart attacks and strokes that occur suddenly when a vessel supplying blood to the heart or brain becomes blocked. This condition encompasses both heart and blood vessels that are failing to function effectively. In addition, causes range from genetics
