One point that I got out of Alexie and Wright’s excerpts was that, even though these two people were put in situations where most would fail, or just give up, these two strove and achieved what they really wanted and worked to give back to their communities so that they could try and break the cruel circle that kept repeating itself throughout generations in their communities. Many people who have the opportunity to go to school slack off and take it for granted. It is sad sometimes that those who have educational opportunities don’t care enough to put forth effort, but those who strive and want education so badly don’t always end up getting it.

Unformatted text preview: I think that we owe it to all those who dont have the same opportunities as us to take advantage of the good things laid before us in our lives. It is kind of like the concept that people sometimes say about starving Africans, You didnt finish your food. There are starving children in Africa that would love to have that food and you are just wasting it. Many people just say this as a joke now to their friends or families. The idea behind it is, in my opinion, one worth thinking about when it comes to the opportunities that come before us in our lives....
