2369 Hispaniola Dr. Baton Rouge, LA 70804 tel: (225) 825-7002 fax: (225) 825-7004 As four consulting engineers, we were asked to evaluate a distribution system for an operating District of SEC Utilities, Kayla Industrial Services (KIS). The operable District is in the state of Mississippi where an existing system needs upgrading because the Bureau of Census has predicted at least a 4% population growth in the said town of Unionville over the next five years. Therefore, our evaluation consists of an analysis of the existing system with existing loads, the existing system with forecasted loads, and the planned system which accounts for the population increase. When we conversed with the systems team at KIS, we were told that our system analysis had set requirements which had to be considered before we began as per our contract. One such requirement was that KIS required that there was no less than an 8 volt drop on a 120 volt base for all feeders. Second, it was required that action be initiated to relieve load or improve the system whenever 80% thermal capacity is exceeded on distribution lines under normal conditions. Last, KIS standards department required that wire type and size of any distribution system improvements be one of the following: #2 ASCR, 1/0 ACSR, 4/0 ACSR, or 336 KCM ACSR.
