Susy Martinez, Diana Moran, Blanche Phlaum 11/17/09 MGT 356 Current Event – “Feds: 14 charged in insider trading Case” Our article was the one about the insider trading case that is connected to the Galleon Group. From this article, we pulled out the following six actions relating to ethics. Was it ethical for the defendants to falsify company files to make it appear that trades weren’t based on secrets? Falsifying company documents is not ethical at all. These people were trying to cover up lies, which is fraud. Was it ethical for the informant who was involved in the insider trading to cooperate with the FBI in hopes of getting leniency? This was ethical because the informant was helping the FBI crack a case that was causing people to lose millions of dollars. Was it ethical for Goffer to pay others to obtain secrets about public companies’ planned merger and acquisition activity that he used to execute profitable securities trades? This was also not ethical because he used confidential information to help him make decisions that made him a lot of money.
