MidTerm #2 Study Guide Definitions/Distinctions: Value: that which one acts to gain and/or keep. (goal) Virtue: that act by which one gains and or keep values.(action) Rights: a right is a moral principle defining and sanctioning a mans freedom of action in a social context. Price Gouging: A practice in which prices on certain kinds of necessary items are raised in the wake of an emergency to what appear to be unfair or exploitatively high levels. Hypernorms: entail principles so fundamental to human existence that they serve as a guide in evaluating lower level moral norms. Moral precepts fundamental to human beings. Subjective egoism: what is moral based on what is good for me short term. Each person be unique. Objective egoism: long term/course of life. Can judge-everyone similar Absolutism: the idea that some rules stay the same thru time in space. Relativism: morality itself changes thru time and space. Bounded Moral Rationality: Moral agents are limited; Moral theories are limited; Economic systems vary from country to country Authentic Norms: Compliance is approved; Almost everybody does it; Deviance is disapproved. Collectivism: fundlementally born into groups. Individualism: fundlementally individuals who join groups.
