Blanche Phlaum Mgt 405-5 Case Preparation Video Nolan Bushnell graduated from University of Utah in 1986 and moved to California. Here he created a simple version of Space War a computer game that was invented in 1962. He called his version Computer Space. His invention could only play games so it was cheaper than a computer; however it required a player to have to read a full page of directions before being able to play the game so it never sold. He started a company with a friend, Ted Dabney, that would develop an even simpler game. They named the company Atari. They created a simple game called “pong” that model table tennis, it brought profits of $300 a week. Realizing that he needed more capital he got a loan for $50,000. Bushnell opened up shop and hired a small batch of employees to produce the video game, including a seventeen year old, Steve Job who later had companies of his own such as Apple Computer, NeXT and Pixar. Don Valentine who was the country’s biggest capitalist noticed Atari and gave the company more money to produce more
