Blanche Phlaum Mgt 405-5 Case Preparation Video Nolan Bushnell graduated from University of Utah in 1986 and moved to California. Here he created a simple version of Space War a computer game that was invented in 1962. He called his version Computer Space. His invention could only play games so it was cheaper than a computer; however it required a player to have to read a full page of directions before being able to play the game so it never sold. He started a company with a friend, Ted Dabney, that would develop an even simpler game. They named the company Atari. They created a simple game called “pong” that model table tennis, it brought profits of $300 a week. Realizing that he needed more capital he got a loan for $50,000. Bushnell opened up shop and hired a small batch of employees to produce the video game, including a seventeen year old, Steve Job who later had companies of his own such as Apple Computer, NeXT and Pixar.
