Replication – making copies Evolution – must evolve! Theory – as an explanation for a very general class of phenomena or observations Cell – highly organized compartment that is bounded by a thin, flexible structure called a plasma membrane and that contains concentrated chemicals in an aqueous (water) solution. Cell Theory – all organisms are made of cells, and all cells come from preexisting cells. Hypotheses – Proposed explanation Prediction – something that can be measured/ that must be correct if hypothesis is! EVOLUTION – change in the characteristics of a population over time. NATURAL SELECTION – how evolution occurs 1. Individuals within a population vary in characteristics that are heritable a. Heritable – trats that can be passed on to offspring b. Population – group of individuals of the same species living in the same area at the same time 2.
