The economy today has devastated many lives within the last year and outsourcing has become more prevalent in the workforce as we now know it. However, there are pros and cons that many are unaware of. We all know that companies are outsourcing their employee headcount for various reasons. One of the big reasons is cost. It’s cheaper to outsource and pay less for an employee that will do the same work for less and no benefits. It is our job to inform those that are working and those that are seeking work about the pros and cons of being an outsourced employee during an economic downturn. Corporate America as a whole, has suffered greatly in our current economy. Many companies have had to cut back on costs, lay off employees, and even close down because of the economy. With outsourcing employee headcount, you can maintain flexibility, evaluate workers without having a commitment, and save time and money 1 . Maintaining flexibility means that the employer can have permanent staff take off for vacation or even sick days, and there will be a temp there to hold down the fort. Work continues to run smoothly and the company remains productive. When you evaluate workers without a commitment, you have the ability to test new hires before making them a permanent employee. Saving time and money is huge. Hiring temporary workers is usually cheaper than the cost of hiring permanent employees with benefits. These are some of the most common pros for companies outsourcing an employee. Outsourced help also brings in a reliable body. Temporary workers are more prone to be at work than permanent employees. Missing a day of work dings you in the pocket when you have no benefits to cover you. Time off becomes irrelevant and cumbersome. Employee turn over is a possibility, due to the fact that temps get burnt
