Chin 414 Advanced Reading and Composition 课课课课 (2012 课) 课课课课: 课课课课课课课 3:00-4:15pm 课课课课: Graham Memorial - Room 0213 课课课课: Lili Fan 课课课 课课课课课课919-962-1019 课课课课课: 111 New West 课课:[email protected] 课课课课: 课课 12:00am-1:00pm课课课 12:00am-1:00pm, or by appointment 课课课课: This course is equivalent to the two regular courses of fourth-year Chinese (CHIN 407 & 408), designed for students who have completed CHIN 313 (Advanced Written Chinese) or have acquired the same level of proficiency through equivalent coursework. Reading and writing are the focus of the course. The course focuses on the written style of the Chinese language which is widely used in news reports, written correspondences, literature, advertisements, product manuals, academic publications, and other “applied” writings. Students will study high quality authentic texts of modern Chinese, mainly essays of various types, including newspaper articles and published writings relating to modern Chinese society. Teaching is conducted in Chinese; the textbook is in both traditional and simplified characters. Students are expected to read and write in either or both forms at their own choice. Class instruction will be in simplified characters only. So it is critical for those who have learned how to read only traditional characters to make a quick transition.
