Overview : The need to allocate resources in order to “optimize” day-to-day operations is an essential aspect of virtually every corporate, government, non-profit or other type of enterprise. This course provides an overview presentation of the various quantitative analysis and modeling tools that can be useful to inform and assist management in making optimal operating decisions. As importantly, the course also provides descriptive case study examples that illustrate the relation- ships and “gray areas” that exist between operational and strategic management. Learning Objectives : Students should expect to gain a basic familiarity with the most commonly used analytic tools and methods and obtain a conceptual understanding of how they might be applied in very different types of businesses and operating environments. The course will also introduce the student to the ways in which these methods are frequently integrated with one another and then embedded in analytic and enterprise business
