Relationships, similar to people, go through stages of development. Describe how a person moves through each of the five stages of Levinger’s ABC’s of relationships model. As you write your description, include answers to the following questions: What do you think people look for in the attraction stage? How do people work on building a relationship? What are some positive factors that foster the continuation of a relationship? What steps might a couple take to avoid the deterioration phase? The stages of Levinger’s relationship model are Attraction, Building, Continuation, Deterioration, and Ending. In the attraction stage, which is the first stage, this is where two people start to notice one another. They take notice of each other’s appearance, make note of positive aspects about the person. The building stage is the second stage. They may engage in small talk and find out common interests that they might have. In this stage they may begin to find ways to spend more time together to talk and sort of feel the other one out. The continuation

An important aspect of the continuation stage is to become a couple and not just individual. The next stage is the deterioration stage. In this stage, the relationship begins to deteriorate. The relationship starts to fall apart and one if not both parties begin to question if the relationship is worth the work and effort and if it what they want. This stage can be avoided if the couples talk honestly and openly with one another. Having a good solid foundation will help them avoid the deterioration stage. The final stage is the ending stage. In this stage one or both parties expresses the desire to end the relationship and that it is just not working out for them. Open communication is important to be clear about what is wanted and to express necessary feelings about the relationship ending....
