OBJECTIVE: To apply the principles developed in the experiments performed so far to construct a transistor curve tracer, and to use the transistor curve tracer to measure the characteristics of npn transistors. PROCEDURE: 1. Assemble the circuit in Figure 1. Make sure to set the oscilloscope on “X-Y” operation, with the X axis at 1 volt/division, and the Y axis at 0.1 V/division. 2. Assemble the circuit in Figure 1, and add a 1 kΩ resistor, a diode, and another 100Ω as replacement for the npn transistor. RESULTS: E V E I B E I I = β 0.05 .0005 A 0 0.2 .002 A 200 .35 .0035 175.00 .5 .005 166.677 Even if you squeeze the transistor in-between your fingers, there is minimal affect on the beta value for the transistor.

Unformatted text preview: 100 ANALYSIS: Design a curve tracer to work with pnp transistors In this example, the diodes have been flipped to accommodate the negative current properties of the PNP Junction diode. In the same respect, a -10V supply has been added to the 620 kilo ohm resistor to properly supply a negative current for the PNP diode. Design a curve tracer that can test both npn and pnp transistor. This design example uses switches to accommodate to match up the appropriate values for the NPN and PNP junction diode. One turn of the switch turns on the +10 V supply, along with the diodes facing in words to the inductor coils. Turn the switch the other way, the flipped diodes are opened, along with -10V supply.
