Reaction to “Band of Brothers” The story “Band of Brothers “by Christian Koch is a tale about a war veteran recalling his heroic rescue of his brother in the Korean War. Christian used metaphors, an interesting tone, and other literary strategies to construct an interesting story about heroism, courage, and family. “Band of Brothers” starts out with a brief exchange in dialogue letting the reader know the setting of the story. This way the reader can understand that the story is a flashback instead of happening in real time. Also, when I was reading the story I assumed the grandchild was inquiring about the significant object when he or she asked “What’s that Grandpa?” even though the author never mentions what it is in the beginning. That was an interesting strategy used by the author who really made the reader think what the significant object was. Then at the end of the story the author revealed to the audience what the child was referring to when he told his story.
