2 Introduction Ø In simulation, usually trying to determine the  effects input parameters have on  output/system performance Ø Computational burden of trying out all  different combinations can be extensive  simulation often used to build metamodels  and response surface models

3 Design of Experiments Ø Statistical field concerned with systematically  setting up experimental points Ø Inputs are called  factors , which have different  levels : Low and high arrival rates 3 or 5 servers Ø DoE techniques estimate the  effects  of the  factor levels, as well as possible  interaction   effects
