Question #1: This art piece was made in 1434, it is an oil painting that was painted on a wood panel by Jan Van Eyck, and it is titled, "Arnolfini Portrait". This painting is full of detail and symbolism that leads many to speculate and develop many ideas in hopes of uncovering what this painting truly means, for example, on the windowsill, you can see oranges signify wealth. Aside from the symbolism, this paint has much depth of detail in the way the chandelier was painted, how the clothes drape and sit on the floor, the saturation of each color that is used, all to say the very least. This is more than just a "generic" painting, the closer you look the more is discovered and revealed, but it gets tricky trying to figure out what they mean, so we must proceed with caution to uncover the real significance. After the readings and videos, we were assigned to watch in this class, I see this painting as a marriage certificate, although it was never confirmed, you a beautiful couple holding hands, the woman looks to be pregnant, and if you look closely you can see writing and a signature on the wall above the mirror. Question #2: This beautiful bronze sculpture is of the biblical hero David by the Renaissance sculptor Donatello that was made sometime around 1446-1460. You can see that David is only wearing a helmet and boots, while he holds a sword as he has one foot on top of the head of Goliath, the giant that he slew.
