NTDT 200-014 Fall 2010 Exam #2 Study Guide This exam will focus on Chapters 4, 5, 6, Highlight 2, and parts of Chapter 18 (as indicated). However, some material not found in the textbook but discussed during the lectures will be included as indicated. Wednesday, October 20, 2009 at 11:15am in Willard 319 Bring #2 pencils I will be available to answer questions via e-mail—please do not wait until the last minute to ensure I will get back to you before the exam. Chapter 4: Carbohydrates After reviewing your class notes and reading this chapter , you should be able to: Differentiate between lactose intolerance and milk allergy Describe how blood glucose levels are regulated Describe the effect of dietary fiber on the rate of gastric emptying Nutrients likely to be consumed in insufficient amounts if lactose intolerant Describe why limited amount of energy stored in form of glycogen Identify which macronutrient is broken down to provide glucose once glycogen stores used up Identify function of epinephrine in terms of carbohydrate metabolism Define desirable glycemic response List proposed benefits of consuming adequate amounts of soluble and insoluble fiber Define glycogenolysis and glycogenesis Highlight 4: Alternatives to Sugar After reviewing your class notes and reading this section of the text
