Syllabus Chemistry 310M/318M Fall 2011 Organic Chemistry, Part I Unique Numbers: Unique Numbers: 51450, 51530 MWF 10:00 - 10:50 Welch 2.224 Dr. Brent Iverson Office Hours: Tuesday and Thursday 5:00 - 6:30 PM Room: GEA 105 (Note this is not my real office, it is a classroom) Teaching Assistant: Amy Rhoden-Smith Office Hours: Wednesday 9-10 AM Room: WEL 4.132B Teaching Assistant: Brian Ikkanda Office Hours: "Missed with Wave" office hour for students needing help with older material: Tuesday 4-5 PM Room: WEL 2.122 Teaching Assistant: Shawn Blumberg Office Hours: Tuesday 10-11 AM Room: TA Area A (Just outside WEL 1.308) Teaching Assistant: Andrew Waldick Office Hours: Thursday 2-3 PM Room: TA Area A (Just outside WEL 1.308) Weekly Recitation Sessions - these will be additional lectures given by the TA's. They will be designed to present the lecture material in a different context, from the point of view of the TA's, with the aim of helping you absorb the material and understand all of the key points. Monday 4-5 PM Room: WEL 1.316 Brian and Andrew will alternate This recitation will focus on working problem so that you will become familiar with the format and expected answers for the types of questions asked on exams. Tuesday 6:30-7:30 PM Room: WEL 2.122 Amy and Shawn will alternate This recitation will involve some lectures by the TA's attempting to "fill in the blanks" of the material, some problems including help with homework that is due the next morning, and answers to any questions you might have. Review Sessions - I will be leading these review sessions which will be designed to help you as much as possible prepare for the exams. Optional review sessions for the mid- term examinations will be given the Monday evening before each exam at on the following days and times: Monday, September 26 Room: WEL 2.224 8:00 - 10:00 PM

Please bring a can of food or two to be donated to the Caritas House food pantry for the homeless here in Austin. As the stress of finals sets in, I think it is a healthy thing to remember that there are many others of our community a far greater level of stress then even college students preparing for finals. Required Texts: 1. Brown, Foote, Iverson and Anslyn, Organic Chemistry, 6th Edition (Nautilus shell on the front cover), Brooks/Cole. 2. Study Guide for above text. Note that the loose leaf version of these books, available directly from the publisher at tremendous savings, are also perfectly acceptable! The 5th edition and the international edition are not the same and are not appropriate substitutes. Course Prerequisites:
