Introduction to Public Health PBH 317 Fall 2011 Study Guide for Exam III Fall 2011 This is a study guide for Exam III. It is not meant to be totally inclusive. You are responsible for all material in the related chapters and materials from PowerPoints, and in-class lectures and discussions whether or not it is located on this review. That being said, there should be no surprises on the exam. You should plan to focus on the chapters covered since exam two ( Riegelman chapters 10, 11, 12, and 13; Milestones Chapter 2—Automotive Safety, Chapter 11—Public Health Infrastructure, Chapter 7—Safer and Healthier Foods. Additionally, you should focus on guest lectures provided by Mr. David Zane and Dr. Suzanne Burnham . Remember that anything in the chapters is fair game (even if we didn’t cover it in class). That being said, please take a look at the guide that I give you. Review your lecture notes carefully as we have covered material that is not found in your text by Riegelman or the Milestones in Public Health. Also, your text and required reading materials covers materials that we did not cover in class. Vocabulary: We used much of this vocabulary during our discussions in class. Mr. Zane and Dr. Burnham may have introduced additional vocabulary and concepts during their lectures that are not covered here. Chapter 10: Healthcare Institutions: Inpatient Facilities Outpatient facilities Academic health center Provider Healthcare system Health systems Joint Commission (formally the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO)) Medically underserved area (MUA) Medically underserved population (MUP) Community health center Medical malpractice (See box 10-4) for a general sense 1
