important events-- Progressive Era 1900 1914 very important transitions took shape two general themes-- citizenship- narrow-- specific--- Who could be American? - last century and half-- more inclusive, broader than beginning of country centralization, expansion of the government increase in immigration, # of immigrants expansion of US territory - moving west 19th century--- imperialistic expansions over east ---> Spanish American War Spain vs US-- gained territory US-- took on colonies, territories overseas= independent and so forth. . First World War significant---> brought US out of isolationism ---- geographic layout of US -- oceans, Mexico and Canada ---- border relations- isolated from rest of world long period of time ---- war came along US did not join war in 1914- 1917-----> US prior entering the war- trade with Europe. .. - including Germans British- Stop German Trade with US --- triggered the changes ... time period two decades of 20th century
