Before Movie Discussion read fiction- social window to China mainly look at films interesting- history course- film making twenty minute film- model itself after another Chinese silent film resonates with thematics of films of 1920s and 30s- modes do first... -------- Winter Story===> explanation what was that film about?- on a deeper level - your need to find out what director wanted to talk about - human relations - sex- not always the best way to express that - other expressions of love - sex- disrespected action??? - consequences of getting selfish was there love in this film? absence of love? no instances of expressing love? sexual moments- not coincided with love - stressing about the need to survive - all about survival - work out “how am I going to make the next day...” talking about history? what are they talking about? what occupies much of their conversation? how to survive... - very claustrophobic movie - panoramic view of the movie’s surroundings claustrophobic space - walls moving in on you ability to explore- be themselves always cold reason put it in- why is that in there?
