The Protestant Reformation Luther 11/2/11 Luther: “The Freedom of a Christian Man” His two propositions concerning the freedom and the bondage of the spirit: 1. A Christian is a perfectly lord free of all, subject to none 2. A Christian is a perfectly dutiful servant of all, subject to all Man has a twofold nature: 1. A spiritual one 1. Man refers to this as the soul 1. the inner 2. the spiritual 3. new man 2. A bodily one 1. Man refers to this as the flesh 1. the outer 2. carnal 3. old man The inner man; Spiritual one 1. The soul can do without anything (food, drink, dress, etc.) except the word of God 2. Word of God is rich and lacks nothing 1. Faith=the saving and efficacious use of the word of God 2. Word of God and faith provide the soul with life and righteousness Faith cannot exist in connection with the works 1. when you begin to have faith you learn that all things in you are sinful 1. therefore, you need Christ, so that through faith you may become a new person once sins are forgiven 2. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
