Biological vulnerability: predisposition to be high strung a.2. Generalized psychological vulnerability: cognitive bases a.3. Specific psychological vulnerability: focused early experiences Generalized anxiety disoreder (“worry disorder”) Anxiety can manifest into physical pain or somatic symptoms (muscle tension, sleep  problems, and headaches)

Negative thoughts about themselves, many people also suffer from depression Uncontrollable worry and apprehension Must last for 6 months or more Worrying about multiple things Disrupts your life or causes discomfort/distress 5.7% people will have this in their life, 2/3 of those people are female usually, a big life stressor occurs early in life and then a gradual onset treatments psychological tx and medication are both effective in the short term, but physiological is  better in the long run medications benzodiazepines: work quick, but very addictive anti-depressants: Paxil, Effexor, etc. psychological cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT): self monitoring, relaxation training, change your  thinking, worry exposure, and prevention acceptance and meditation thought record Trigger: write down something that is making you anxious Automatic thought: why you are anxious Alternative evidence: why you have nothing to be worried about Panic Disorder: with and without Agoraphobia Panic attacks
