I. Science and certainty              (How correct are scientific conclusions?)               Scientific knowledge is  incomplete and some of it is wrong  but an essential  characteristic of the scientific method is that it is  self-correcting .             Science may take wrong turns but we no longer think that: Rain follows the plow (it just didn’t prove out)                         Fusion can take place in a cold jar of water (it couldn’t be replicated)                         Piltdown man is the missing link (it was a hoax)               Another characteristic of science is that it tends to be self-correcting.               Pseudosciences and belief systems employ untested assumptions, hunches,
