DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION 2 Diversity and Inclusion What are the dimensions of cultural diversity? Identify and briefly explain the dimensions by referencing both textbooks. Primary and secondary dimensions make up cultural diversity. Primary dimensions are the most commonly used when thinking about diversity. Primary dimensions are descriptions of identifiers of people categorizing race, gender, and age to name a few. “If you are reflecting on the many ways your employees can vary (by race, gender, age, education, sexual orientation, geographic origin or employment, tenure), that’s a mixture whose components are people, individuals categorized along multiple dimensions” (Harvey & Allard, 2009 p. 12). These dimensions of cultural diversity group people by physical characteristics, religion, and nationality. Most of the time these groups share experiences of prejudice towards them by other cultural groups. Secondary dimensions are organization or functional units. “One may argue that functions are composed of individuals, which is true, but the general manager of multiple functions does not experience this as a mixture of people but rather as a mixture of organizational units” (Harvey & Allard, 2009, p. 12). Some dimensions of cultural diversity are easy to distinguish, while others are not. The dissimilarities and resemblances among the groups
