McDowell Mei Xuan GROUP #3 To answer the first part of the question, we as a group generate several basic observations: Chinese tourists’ spending counts a more and more significant part of the US travel industry’s profit, though China is not yet among the top 10 countries that provide international arrivals to America in term of the absolute number of tourists. o Data: In 2009, the U.S.’s benefit from Chinese tourists has a market share of 0.3%. However, another set of data indicates that from 2002 to 2009, Chinese tourists’ spending exhibited a 44% annual growth rate. Therefore, we can expect a steady increase in the share of Chinese tourists among America international arrivals in the near future. o Historical fact: after Chinese and America governments signed Memorandum of Understanding by the end of 2007, a surge of Chinese travelers to America has been lured by an accelerated procedure of getting identifications and an overall
