Lab 3.1 Part I Prepare the system 1. Start up the yourusername-FC9 system and login as root 2. Press <CTRL>+<ALT>+<F2> to access the second virtual terminal <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_console> * There are many ways to get to the command prompt but this is probably the least painful, especially if you are accessing your system remotely from off campus * To switch back to X-Windows type <CTRL>+<ALT>+<F7> * There are seven virtual terminals available accessible with <CTRL>+<ALT>+<F1>-<F7> 3. Login as root 4. Type the command umount /dev/sr0 * This disconnects (unmounts) the installation DVD * Remember that all Linux commands are case sensitive 5. Type the command mkdir /media/dvd * This creates a new directory which will be used as the new mount point for the installation DVD 6. Type the command mount /dev/sr0 /media/dvd * This makes (mounts) the installation DVD accessible at /media/dvd which is where the text book expects it to be 7. Type the command wget http://yourusername:yourpassword@www.nl.northweststate.edu/SharedStuff/CIS155/hello-2.3.tar.gz
