Lab 8.1 Part I Work with the init program 1. Read pages 193 - 198 in your book 2. Start your FC9 machine, and login to a virtual terminal as root 3. Edit the file /etc/inittab using vi or another text editor 4. Modify the last line of the file so it looks like: * id:3:initdefault: 5. Save the file and exit vi 6. Type reboot to restart the machine 7. Login as root * Notice that at a runlevel of 3 X-Windows does not start automatically 8. Type the command startx * Notice that you can start X-Windows manually from run level 3 9. Press <CTRL>+<ALT>+<BACKSPACE> * This key combination sends a kill signal to X-Windows 10.
