Lab 8.2 This lab will be done using the Ch07 virtual machine. If your machine is non-functional a fresh copy can be found at http://www.nl.northweststate.edu/SharedStuff/CIS155/Ch7.7z Part I Install, configure and test the telnet service 1. Install the xinetd daemon 2. Install the telnet-server program 3. Configure the telnet configuration file so this daemon is enabled 4. Add the following two lines to the telnet configuration file * log_on_success = HOST * log_type = SYSLOG local1 5. Start the xinetd daemon 6. Create a yourusername user on the system 7. Type the command telnet localhost 8. Login as yourself 9. Type exit to close the telnet session Part II Configure and test logging for the telnet daemon 1. Add an entry to the rsyslog configuration file that will cause all messages sent to the local1 facility to be written to the file /var/log/telnet 2. Restart the rsyslog daemon to activate the changes 3. Use the telnet program to login into the local machine as yourself 4. Exit the telnet session
