Lab 12.1 Part I Add an additional network card to the virtual machine 1. Shut down the FC9 system 2. Go to the VM menu and choose the option Settings. .. 3. Click the Add. .. button 4. Click Next 5. Select Ethernet Adapter and click Next 6. Accept the default Network Type settings and click Finish 7. Click OK Part II Work with the standard IP address settings 1. Read pages 300 - 304 in your book 2. Start up your FC9 system 3. Access a virtual terminal and login as root 4. Verify that you can ping the classroom router with the command ping 10.216.217.252 * To stop the ping program type <CTRL>+C 5. View the existing network configuration by typing the command ifconfig 6. View the configuration for just the second ethernet card by typing the command ifconfig eth1 * Make note of the last number of the IP address (inet addr), this will be the number used when you see x later in the lab 7. Shutdown the NetworkManager service with the command service NetworkManager stop * The NetworkManager service attempts to automatically configure the network 8. Disable the first ethernet card with the command ifconfig eth0 down 9. Disable the second ethernet card with the command ifconfig eth1 down 10. Disable the DHCP client with the command pkill dhclient * The DHCP service attempts to automatically configure the network interfaces 11. Clear the configuration of the second network card with the command ip address flush eth1 12. View the existing network configuration by typing the command ifconfig * Notice that by default it only shows active network cards 13. View the configuration for the second ethernet card by typing the command ifconfig eth1 14. Verify that you CANNOT ping the classroom router with the command ping 10.216.217.252 15. Configure the second network card with the command ifconfig eth1 10.216.217.x netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 10.216.217.255 * Use the value recorded earlier in place of x 16. View the configuration for the second ethernet card by typing the command ifconfig eth1 17. Verify that you can ping the classroom router with the command ping 10.216.217.252 18. Verify that you CANNOT ping the class router using IPv6 using the command ping6 fd00:0:c8:1::ffff
